ADHD or Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder it is considered a developmental disorder marked by persistent symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity that interfere with functioning or development. We often think of ADHD as a disorder found only in children who are hyperactivity and don't follow directions. However, this is not true. Adults with ADHD usually will have issues with inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
ADHD in adults with regards to inattention will have issues with forgetfulness, tardiness/late to work or appointments, easily distracted and even procrastination. They easily get labeled as lazy from others including family, friends, coworkers etc. They end up having issues at work perhaps even have been given verbal warnings or worse fired from employment.
Adults with ADHD with hyperactivity will be fidgety, hard time sitting still in meets/classroom, easily frustrated, feels of restlessness inside and impatient. Sometimes this can look like anxiety and a detailed and through assessment is needed to differentiate between the two.
The impulsivity found in adults with ADHD look like issues with excessive talking, interrupting others in conversation, fast or sometimes reckless driving, impulse buying. These symptoms can also mimic other mental health disorders such as bipolar or mood disorders, anxiety. Some adults with ADHD will have interpersonal relationship issues and will find it hard to maintain and having meaningful relationships with others
